What a charming little man Hunter is. With those beautiful big blue eyes, he’ll steal your heart. And he LOVES his furry best friend, Max.
The bottom image is a design for a canvas gallery wrap – a unique keepsake to have in the family for years to come.

Scarlett having some “fun time” with Daddy. What a sweetie! The day of this portrait session was a hot one so Scarlett wanted to play in the new water feature in the park. To see more, click here: Scarlett In SW Park
As I open the door of my car I am anxiously greeted by two white flashes of energy named Oscar and Lily. Their owner, Meredith, informs me that their namesakes are from “French” designers Oscar de la Renta and Lily of France in tribute to their breed’s origins. Breaking French Designer stereotypes of being “haughty”, these two are warm, playful, charismatic and very very entertaining!
For this home portrait session, I used the big bay windows to provide the back light separating the back of the doggies’ head from the leopard print background. A speedlight shooting through an umbrella on a light stand is placed just off to camera right. Milan get ready for these two adorable hotties!
Portland Center Stage hosted its annual “Dinner on Stage” event on the set of the currently running play, “25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.” Captivating the guests was a powerful performance given by Gavin Gregory, who is currently staring in the “Bee.” His version of “Superstar” was as poignant with that sense of longing as Karen Carpenter’s version. I have to admit, it brought me to tears. The talent that Mr. Gregory possesses is amazing and his performance in Ragtime was rewarded by his receipt of a “Drammy.”

Sometimes curious puppies get up close and personal. This little guy received lots of attention at this past Saturday’s St Andrew Legal Clinic’s Race for Justice.

Imagine trying to dance on a stage roughly 5×5 feet and sharing the stage with taiko drums. How would you photograph this miniature performance? My interpretation was to climb up and point down on the platform. To keep that feeling of “smallness”, I wanted to only illuminate the performers. These images will be used for the Portland Taiko’s press releases. If you spot one of these in a publication, please let me know!

Ten different choreographers—in genres from traditional to contemporary—taking up the challenge of creating dances for a tiny stage with taiko as the heartbeat. Portland Taiko, working with celebrated choreographer Mike Barber, brings together the best in creative energy of dance from the West Coast, with the soul of taiko in this concert of world premieres.

What I’d like to know is why there is no ice cream being handed out at the finish line for the adult race?! Kids get all the fun!
This year’s Race for Justice is Saturday, JUNE 19th. Click here for more information. It is easy this year to register and ask for pledges online! Hopefully I’ll see you there!
SALC helps bridge the gap for families who do not qualify for Legal Aid and can not afford to hire a private attorney. As a result of the legal representation that SALC provides, families have increased financial security, stay off of welfare and are overall more productive members of our society. And more children also grow up in positive and safe environments as a result of SALC’s intervention.
What happens when you place a 2-layer cake in front of a half naked one year old boy? THIS! Happy Birthday Corbin!

Okay this first image on the left is an outtake from Spencer’s portrait session but I couldn’t resist posting this. Doesn’t he look so suspicious of his ”Moosie” stealing the spot light from his portrait session?
Spencer is an 8 month old VERY energetic and lively moving target! My nickname for him during the session was “Spunky!” It should be fairly obvious that this King Charles Spaniel steals the heart of every passerby on his daily walks along the Riverplace Marina.
Here’s one of my other favorites from Spencer’s portrait session just to show you what a beautiful and handsome little guy he is.

My golden opportunity arrived! I was being interviewed for The Strand’s, our building complex, quarterly newsletter. The following is my “self portrait” to show off some of my work and the products I offer, such as the line of “whimsical” frames and designer “Coach-like” quality photo handbags.

For you techies, here is the set up to create this image:

So here’s my thought process for this image. I wanted to show the buildings and sky in the background as well as show “me” and the products in the foreground.
I first metered for the light coming from the window in the background of the image so the buildings and sky would not get “blown out” (i.e. overexposed) in the final image. Unfortunately, my light meter was in the “shop” so I had to use the meter in the camera body (not the best method but will do in a pinch). Wanting to keep a good depth of field (i.e. a wider range of keeping “things” in focus), I set the aperture to f/8 and adjusted the shutter speed until my meter indicated the correct exposure (i.e. middle of the scale).
If I just stayed at this setting, everything in the foreground (including me) would be dark. So the next part to consider was how to light the foreground. A Nikon D200 was set up on the tripod and an SB900 Speedlight was placed on the light stand with a shoot through umbrella. The set up image doesn’t show that the light and umbrella was actually placed higher just above my head pointing slightly downward. Having the light set up “off camera”, I avoided glare off the products and placing the light slightly above me created a flattering shadow line (see below my chin).
Ta Da! Let me know what you think!
