<p>The Portland Business Alliance asked if I would photograph ESCO&#8217;s Tony Guiterrez for their Jobs Report on local manufacturing.  I wanted to make sure I got the machinery and the glowing fiery liquid in the background.  So how do we get ambient background light to show up?  Right, use a longer shutter speed.  But the light was too dim to get a nice exposure on Tony in the foreground.  So I set up an <a href="http://www.paulcbuff.com/e640.php" target="_blank">Einstein</a> bouncing into a small umbrella on a light stand.  My exposure was 1/20s at f/5.0, with ISO 800 using Nikon AF 85 f/1.4 + D300.</p>

Asking someone to &#8220;redo&#8221; what you missed or in this case not being the cause of a &#8220;miss&#8221; isn&#8217;t a bad thing &#8211; you might loose some of the sponteneity but you never know unless you try, right?</p>
